Audibear ("we", "our", "us") is operated by Jeffrey Hou, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. We are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information
When you register, we collect your email address and a password (stored securely via Supabase authentication). You can also provide a mobile phone number. This is optional — you can create an account and use Audibear without it — and we use it only to follow up with you or to provide support.

1.2 Voice Recordings (Biometric Data)
Audibear's core feature requires you to record a 60-second voice sample. This recording is processed by Fish Audio (a third-party AI voice cloning service) to create a voice model. This constitutes biometric data under UK GDPR and is treated with the highest level of care.

  • Your voice recording is transmitted securely to Fish Audio for processing.

  • Fish Audio creates a voice model (a digital representation of your voice) which is stored and used to narrate audiobooks.

  • You can delete your voice data at any time by deleting your account in Settings.

  • Fish Audio has confirmed to us in writing that, by default, they do not train their models on data from their API customers, except where strictly necessary to deliver and maintain the service.

  • We do not use your voice data to train any models of our own.

1.3 Usage Data
We collect basic usage data such as which books you have listened to and your playback progress. This is stored in our database (Supabase) to provide the service.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the Audibear service

  • To create your personalised voice model via Fish Audio

  • To save your reading progress across sessions

  • To contact you about your account or respond to your support requests

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Audibear:

  • Supabase (database and authentication) — supabase.com/privacy

  • Fish Audio (voice cloning and text-to-speech) — fish.audio/privacy

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing them.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account from Settings in the Audibear app, deletion happens immediately — it is not queued or batched. We delete:

  • Your voice model, from Fish Audio, via their API

  • All audio narrated in your voice, from our storage

  • Your reading progress, saved narrations, child profile, credits and subscription record, from our database

  • Your email address and phone number, from our signup records

  • Your account itself, from our authentication system

Your original voice recording is not listed above because it is never stored on our servers at any point. It is passed directly to Fish Audio when you record it and is never written to disk by us.

If you have a paid subscription, it remains active until the end of the period you have already paid for, and does not renew.

5. Your Rights Under UK GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access — request a copy of the data we hold about you

  • Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data

  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your data (you can do this directly via Settings > Delete Account)

  • Right to data portability — request your data in a machine-readable format

  • Right to object — object to processing of your data

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

6. Children's Privacy

Audibear is designed for use by parents and guardians. Voice recordings must be made by adults (18 or over). The app plays audiobooks to children but does not collect any data directly from children.

7. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Voice recordings are transmitted securely to Fish Audio and are not stored on our servers.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by email. Continued use of Audibear after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Audibear, operated by Jeffrey Hou, a sole trader in the United Kingdom ("we", "our", "us"). By creating an account and using Audibear, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. The Service

Audibear is a children's audiobook platform that allows parents and guardians to record their voice, which is then used to narrate children's stories using AI voice cloning technology. The service is provided via the Audibear mobile and web application at app.audibear.com.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use Audibear. By registering, you confirm that you are 18 or over. The voice recording feature must only be used by adults — you must not record the voice of a minor.

3. Account Registration

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Please notify us immediately at jeffreyhou96@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

4. Voice Recording and AI Processing

By using the voice recording feature, you:

  • Consent to your voice being processed by Fish Audio to create a personalised voice model

  • Confirm that you are the person being recorded and have the right to submit this recording

  • Understand that your voice model will be used to narrate audiobooks within the Audibear service

  • Confirm you are 18 or over and are not recording the voice of a minor

Your voice data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy. You can delete your voice data at any time by deleting your account.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use Audibear for any unlawful purpose

  • Attempt to reverse engineer, hack, or disrupt the service

  • Share your account credentials with others

  • Upload or submit content that infringes third-party rights

  • Record the voice of any person without their consent

6. Content and Intellectual Property

Audiobooks available on Audibear are sourced from public domain works (Project Gutenberg). The Audibear platform itself, including its design and branding, is our intellectual property. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without our written permission.

7. Availability and Changes

We aim to provide a reliable service but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time. We will provide reasonable notice of significant changes where possible.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by UK law, Audibear and Jeffrey Hou shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 3 months prior to the claim.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you by email of any material changes. Continued use of Audibear after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
